Falu RödfärgPhotographer: Birgitta Wahlberg

The red paint from Falun is part of the picture of the Swedish cultural landscape.

It is made of iron ochre from Falun Mine. The full-bodied red paint is mentioned in written sources as early as 1573, but it was not until the mid-eighteenth century that manufacture on a large scale began.

Visit Krongården in the grounds of Falu Rödfärg for sales and exhibition.
