The outer ironworks

The Iron Road was the name given to the route through the parishes of Svärdsjö and Sundborn where iron was produced by Bergslaget in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The mines in Vintjärn provided the blast furnace of Svartnäs and later the Åg Smeltery with ore. At Korsån ironworks the pig-iron was transformed into bar-iron.

In all these places today there are magnificent industrial monuments embedded in beautiful surroundings.
